Village QR Heritage Trail
Friday, 16 November 2012 20:16

Howe Bridge community group has had a QR Code Heritage Trail created around the area. QR Codes have been installed at 27 points of interest.

These codes can be scanned by mobile devices which will then be connected to a website page relating to the place of interest they are standing at. These web pages are on the Bridgers website (www.bridgers.org.uk). Sue Loudon and Steve Williams (pictured front right and front left) gathered information on each of the locations and fed that information to Frank Belch (pictured back left) who provided a web domain and web hosting for the website. Frank also constructed the entire web site and database that runs it. He then converted the documents containing the information from Steven and Susan into web pages. Wigan Council did a great job of installing the signs with the codes on them at all the sites. All in all it was a fantastic piece of remote collaboration where all this work was done with hardly any face to face meetings. At the North West in Bloom awards ceremony held in Southport recently we won the HERITAGE TROPHY for our Q R Coded Heritage Trail.
